Clare Scott has been thinking about brevity—not as haste, but as the practice of finding what is essential and to avoid excess. Embracing the idea of just enough.

Her work has long focused on fleeting moments in the landscape: a particular season, a specific light, a moment in time. In this show, she extends that exploration to human beings, capturing brief moments that evoke shared emotions and experiences.

Through both landscapes and figures, Clare seeks to express the beauty, wonder, and common humanity found in our shared place and our shared passage through time. All the while being here now.

Monica Hokeilen's paintings in the Being on Earth exhibit are an invitation to step outside of your daily lives and connect with the wildlife that also call the Rocky Mountain region home. Humans have a shared existence with these animals: When thunder rumbles and hail falls, the coyote and pronghorn also feel the storm. The bison bake with us under the intense Colorado summer sun. The wild cats of Colorado walk the same mountains, foothills, canyons, and mesas that we so enjoy. And the elk feel the weight of the winter snow, just as do the moose and deer.

By simplifying the surroundings in these paintings to almost pure abstraction, Monica encourages the viewer to step into the animal’s experience as a living being on Earth.
