Día de Muertos First Friday

FRIDAY, Nov 7 | Art Walk & Procession | 5:30-9P.M.

OVERVIEW

The Art District on Santa Fe (ADSF) is proud to hosting our Día de Muertos celebration annually on the First Friday of November as part of Denver Arts Week.

On Friday, November 7th, in addition to traditional First Friday Art Walk activities—with late-night access to hundreds of artists and exhibits among the galleries on Santa Fe Drive—there will be Calavera face painting stations, community altars throughout the district, dance and musical performances, a community procession, and more! Please read on for details.

The event is hosted in collaboration with our wonderful partners at Museo de las Américas, CHAC Gallery and Cultural Center, Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center, VFW Post 1, the Center For Visual Arts, Councilwoman Jamie Torres, District 3, Univision Colorado, Denverite, and Night Lights Denver.

COMMUNITY PROCESSION

We are excited to be bringing back our beloved community procession, which the public is invited to join from 6-7pm during the art walk. The procession will begin at the Su Teatro parking lot with opening remarks by Councilwoman Jamie Torres and a blessing. All must gather by 5:30pm in order to participate. The walking route will move north along Santa Fe Drive to 10th Ave., from where it will return to Museo de las Americas for a closing celebration. All are welcome to join the procession as we make our way down Santa Fe Drive. Please gather by 5:30pm in order to participate.

COMMUNITY PHOTO MEMORIAL

A photo memorial honoring those who have passed will be displayed publicly during our November First Friday Día de Muertos Art Walk. Location TBA. The photo memorial will also be projected on the Daniels & Fisher Tower (1601 Arapahoe St. on the 16th Street Mall) from 6:30pm - 11:45pm on November 1st. The projections at the Daniels & Fisher Tower are provided in partnership with Night Lights Denver, The Denver Theatre District, and Denverite. Submissions for the community photo memorial will be open to the public in October. Stay tuned for more.

WHERE WE ARE

Our District spans from 13th on the North to Alameda on the South, Kalamath to the West, and Inca to the East. There will be a rolling closure on Santa Fe Drive from 6th Avenue to 10th Avenue from 5:30-7pm for our community procession.

VENDING

While First Friday Art Walks continue year round, our outdoor vendor markets are on pause until spring. Come back next year to learn more!

Please note: per the City of Denver, street vending is not permitted on sidewalks along Santa Fe Drive between 6th and 11th aves during First Fridays year-round. Vendors who would like to vend outside of these areas must still acquire all necessary permitting and licenses through appropriate City departments.

Vendor spots in the NEWSED parking lot are available year-round and can be registered for HERE.
