D’art Gallery East is proud to present: “Interstices” featuring Tom Riedel -Tom is an artist based in Lakewood, Colorado. He started making geometric, abstract art in the early 1980s, when his work was shown in juried shows at Pirate, Spark and Emmanuel galleries in Denver and in a two-person show at Stein’s Gallery in 1984. Tom stopped making art from 1988 to 2020 to pursue higher education and a 25-year career as an academic librarian; he has B.A and M.A. degrees in art history from the University of Colorado and a MLIS from the University of Texas. His 21st-century work has shown in juried exhibits at Core Art Space and Pirate Contemporary Art. He has been an artist member of D’art Gallery since 2024. Interstices is his third solo show at D’art.
Artist Statement
I use geometric shapes and hard-edged areas of color to create what I intend to be a meditative visual experience for the viewer. My multimedia works are composed of hand-cut and layered pieces of illustration board and cardboard that are painted with acrylic and reassembled like puzzles into tiles arranged in grids. Each work is a color study starting with a basic palette that evolves until the overall play of design and color feels vibrant and engaging enough for me to call it finished.
