Pressure Exhibition at D'art Gallery

  • D'art Gallery 900 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Exhibition Dates: October 22, 2026 - November 15, 2026

D’art Gallery proudly presents “PRESSURE” featuring Douglas Long and Scott Wilson- An unlikely collaboration. An unexpected resonance. Ceramics and Photojournalism are the exhibition mash up we didn’t know we needed. What holds under stress? Different Materials, different practices - a shared concern with tension, endurance and what remains.

Douglas Long’s ceramics explore rupture, distress and repair while Scott Wilson’s documentation of Colorado wild horse roundups witnesses pursuit, forced movement and confinement.

Douglas Long

In Pressure, Douglas Long explores what happens when the structures that hold us together also constrain us. His porcelain forms bear exposed fractures, uneven chains, and rods that bend under the demands placed upon them. Breakage and distortion become part of the work, leaving each piece somewhere between standing and giving way.

Alongside Scott Wilson’s photographs of wild horses, these sculptures give physical form to vulnerability, confinement, and endurance. Their connection is emotional and conceptual: pressure made visible through clay. Long leaves the strain exposed, asking viewers to consider the uneasy boundary between being supported and being held captive.

The Colorado Roundup

For five years, I have photographed the removal of wild horses from Colorado’s public lands. This work began in 2021 at the Sand Wash Basin roundup. I arrived as a wildlife photographer and left as an advocate. Since then, I have returned again and again to Sand Wash Basin, Piceance Basin, West Douglas and Little Book Cliffs to document what happens when wild horses are rounded up, separated from their bands, loaded into trailers and removed from the landscapes they have known as home.

In 2026, approximately 1,250 horses are being removed from Piceance Basin and Sand Wash Basin alone. The Colorado Roundup is not a single event. It is a five-year photographic record of a recurring process—and of the horses caught within it. My practice is rooted in PhotoAdvocacy: the intentional use of photography to move an issue from observation to action. I believe photography can build awareness, influence public conversation and create the space for meaningful change. The photograph is the beginning of that process, not the end.

These images are therefore more than wildlife photographs. They are photojournalism. They are visual evidence of a public policy unfolding on the ground. This exhibition is my attempt to bear witness to a process that most people will never see. The Colorado Roundup will be accompanied by an artist talk on November 13 in collaboration with We Animals, whose work places animal photojournalism at the intersection of visual storytelling, public awareness and change.
