Brilliant Beings Lecture at Museo de las Americas

  • Museo de las Americas 861 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Some of the most well-known art of West Mexico are burnished depictions of flora and fauna rendered in ceramic. An assortment of agave, squash, dogs, birds, and fish among other beings make their way into burials associated with this area. The painstaking effort to craft such brilliant creatures begs questions about their meanings and significance during the late-formative and classic period. Ms. Barofsky’s talk approaches this inquiry through embodied looking, archaeological data, and art historical formal analysis to suggest the iterative potential of these realistic and captivating works.

Free to Members, $10 for General Public. Registration required.

Reception at 6pm. Lecture at 6:30pm.
