Western Extraction Exhibition at Bitfactory Gallery

  • Bitfactory Gallery 851 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Bitfactory Gallery presents Western Extraction a solo exhibition that engages in a quiet dialogue about place, memory, and the evolving identity of the American West. On view February 20 – March 14, 2026, the show features cyanotype images by established photographer Bailey Russel. The public is invited to an opening reception on February 20, 6:00 – 9:00 PM and to visit the show during First Friday, March 6, 6:00 – 9:00 PM or during regular business hours during the run of the show.

Russel’s work draws from rural Wyoming, where contemporary subjects are translated through cyanotype onto glass and are further articulated with gold or silver leaf. Presented primarily in cameo format, these pieces evoke the material and visual language of late nineteenth-century portraiture, echoing the historical aura of frontier-era imagery while remaining firmly rooted in present-day landscapes shaped by industry, infrastructure, and environmental change.

This show will run in conjunction with the Month of Printmaking, a celebration of the art of making original prints to inspire, educate and promote awareness in the Denver metropolitan area, the Front Range region, and throughout Colorado. The event is hosted every other year, alternating with the Month of Photography. Visit moprint.org for more information and a full schedule of events.
