Common Ground at D'art Gallery

  • D'art Gallery 900 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

D’art Gallery proudly presents “Common Ground” featuring Missy Borden, Suzanne Kramer, Cynthia Martin and Pam Roth O’Mara.

This exhibition explores the many ways we are connected—to one another, to nature, to the stories we carry, and to the world as we experience it. Each artist brings a distinct perspective, yet together the works reveal a shared human desire to observe, interpret, and find meaning.

Missy Borden
My work is a continual exploration of the space between structure and spontaneity—it’s how I make sense of everything going on in life. I take the messy, unorganized feelings from my inner world and transform them into angular structures on canvas, trying to create harmony from what often feels overwhelming. While I use a sketchbook to mapout basic layouts, when it comes to the actual painting, I only have a general sense of where I’m going. Each piece is a meditation on embracing uncertainty. I have to let go of a strict plan, balancing instinct with intention at every stage, and trust my subconscious to guide the piece.

This series charts the invisible architecture of both our interpersonal and intrapersonal worlds. It explores what happens when we unlearn the habit of morphing or silencing parts of ourselves just to keep the peace. The shapes on these canvases represent those different inner states and outer dynamics. They are heavy, sharp, and fiercely distinct. By overlapping, holding spaces open, and letting conflicting visual weights co-exist, these forms visualize what it looks like when different pieces of a whole show up and finally learn to live side-by-side.

Suzanne Kramer
My work explores the beauty that exists above and below ground level. Looking upward through the canopy and downward to the forest floor reveals two interconnected worlds, each rich with texture, light, and quiet complexity. By shifting perspective, I invite viewers to discover the hidden relationships between what is easily seen and what is often overlooked, finding mystery and beauty in every layer of nature.

Cynthia Martin
I’m a mixed media collage artist based in Northern Colorado. With a background in English literature, I’m drawn to the ways images, like words, can suggest stories and stir emotion.

I work with a variety of media, along with vintage and contemporary papers, photographs, and found materials. I love the way unexpected combinations can reveal something I wasn’t consciously looking for. In that sense, I create art like a journal—a place to notice what surfaces, what I’ve forgotten, or what I’m still trying to understand.

Rarely do I begin with a fixed idea. I follow instinct, make choices, change direction, and see where the work takes me. What I’m after is an ambiguous outcome, a visual experience that’s not fully clear, but that feels true to me, even if I can’t quite explain why.

Pam Roth O’Mara
Abstract painter, instructor, park interpreter, editor, writer

The visual arts found Pam later in life. At 60, she began taking art classes at the Curtis Center for the Arts, Greenwood Village. She’d always loved abstract art and decided to give it a try. Ten years later, Pam’s work has appeared in exhibits and festivals across the Denver area, including D’art 360 Gallery; D’art 360 West Gallery; Niza Knoll Gallery; NKollectiv Gallery; The Schoolhouse Parker; Curtis Art Center; Arapahoe Community College Gallery of Colorado; City of Centennial People’s Gallery; Depot Gallery; Littleton Bemis Library; Littleton Museum; Littleton THAC Stanton Gallery; Castle Rock Library National Arts Program Exhibit; Castle Rock Court the Arts Festival; Castle Rock Hospital, Littleton Hospital,Centennial Chalk Art Festival; Fika Coffeehouse; Nixon’s Coffee House; and Smokin’ Fins. Her work also appears nationally in private collections. Pam is a member of D’art 360 Gallery in Denver’s Santa Fe Art District, Colorado Women’s Art Museum, Parker Artists Guild, and Women’s Caucus for Art CO Chapter.

About the creative process, Pam says “Time and place motivate me. Time of day, time of year, position of the sun. I’m inspired by the motion of water, trees, and grasses. Iuse color, texture, and movement to reveal what I’m experiencing, remembering, imagining, and feeling. Painting is performance art, a dance of joy. I move around the canvas, and reposition it to see the work from different angles. Acrylics offer the textures and colors I prefer and ease to create. I often mix colors on the canvas.”

Pam loves the visual arts, performing arts, and the great outdoors. She’s worked as an artist, park interpreter, performer, conference director, editor, instructor, marketing consultant, and patent strategist. She volunteers at South Platte Park,Littleton. She’s guided groups for Denver Botanic Gardens at the Plains Conservation Center, Aurora, and taught art and improvisational acting at Arapahoe Community College, Littleton CO.
