Kathryn Oberdorfer, "Remembering August"
Remember August? Although the temperatures were clearly those of summer, there was a uniqueness in the air that gave us a hint that fall is on its way. Bright and faded greens with muted pinks, purples, reds and yellows dappled the landscape. Suddenly, days were shorter, schools were getting back in session, and bike rides with sunlight until 9 pm were no longer possible.

Now it is the dead of winter - a time that some of us dread and others embrace. Whatever it is for you, let this exhibit of colorful paintings and prints remind you of the wonders of August.

Annalee Schorr, "Magnetic/Geometric"
The underlying theme of this exhibit is the tension between order and chaos, and visual presentation of this conflict. Circles, dots, squares or slashes are all backed by a grid foundation. Colors are bright, often primary, and add complexity. Magnetic sheeting adhered to metal panels is the base material, utilizing duct tape, Posca markers, or acrylic paint. Inspiration for the patterning comes from looking back at previous works, as well as studying of textiles, fractals, and optics.

Jerry Johnson in the North Gallery, "Cut Outs"
One of the unifying themes of this show is that the work is all cut out. The edges define the interior of the piece and they do that by the interior finding the edges. This process is one I have used many times over the years by developing my own stencils. In this case, the stencil was a found object that I liked the configuration of and started drawing to develop into a finished work.
