Kristy Smith loves painting because it requires staying present. Whether she is doing abstract painting or something more representational, she is absorbed in the materials and process at hand. Each line, each stroke, each color comes from a process of listening and looking to see exactly what is present now and what is called for in this moment to allow it to transform to what is next. This practice of being present in her art also helps her be more present in everyday life.

Karin Kempe’s paintings are also the fruit of "This Moment," the place of the good luck accident, fortunate mistake or a spark of unexpected inspiration. They range from fantasy landscapes to purely abstract work, all sharing commonalities of palate, technique and a joy found in light and color. Metallic leaf as well as acrylic glazes create translucence and light.
