The MIX, ONE

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Saginaw, TX, 76131 United States (map)

Niza Knoll Gallery presents its annual showcase of artists from The MIX co-op that resides in the back of the gallery. The first of two shows highlights four of the eight member artists—Jennifer Ghormley, Pat Lickly, Paula Romero Schmitt and Mark Stokesbury—whose work will be on display in the front gallery from September 29 through November 4, 2023. Their artwork varies in medium and style and never fails to delight viewers with originality and accessibility. The public is invited to view the show during regular gallery hours, Thursday-Sunday 1-4 pm, and during the following special events:

First Friday Art Walk: October 6, 5-9 pm
Artist Reception: Friday, October 20, 4-8 pm
Sundays on Santa Fe Art Walk: October 29, 11 am–3 pm

Pat Lickly’s mixed-media work is often inspired by Asian themes. She will be featuring new versions of her popular serenity figures that combine, clay, patinated copper, acrylic paint and found objects. Her OM Mandala incorporates textured clay with copper and represents the sound or mantra in Hindu that is often used in the practice of yoga.

Mark Stokesbury continues to amuse viewers with his colorful mixed-media fabric paintings of animals in various states of being, on whimsical backgrounds. The creatures can be found hanging out in their natural poses (like the 3 giraffes) or presented in fantastical states (like a winged elephant), sometimes even engaging in more human-like behaviors (like riding scooters), but all are sure to charm the viewer.

Paula Romero-Schmitt will showcase her popular porcelain pieces including an enchanting row of small colorful houses on painted wood panel. She also includes a home for the bees on her hive-like tile creations.

Jennifer Ghormley’s woodblock prints on handsewn sheer fabric range from flowy figurative work to smaller, repeated fabric elements expertly installed to form a large work that evokes ripples in a pure body of water.
