Keith Howard, "The Trail that Disappears"
I’m interested in the story of a drawing that erases itself as it’s being made. We respond to the missteps that attend the creation of anything, and we watch time work its abrasive magic on the things we make. Erosion summons gratitude for the things to be enjoyed that are close at hand, for they tend to pass more quickly than we expect. Step outside and notice the high rises that imperil the viability of the Arts District and the survival of our gallery.
Janice McDonald, "Gesture and Flow"
Janice’s collage compositions offer moments of tenuous balance, along with sinuous movement, created from torn paper shapes and the powerful connections between them. A focus on the importance of gesture and flow in her work has pushed recent collages into new areas — incorporating more lyrical forms, calligraphic mark-making, and the occasional use of found words/phrases.
John Decker in the North Gallery, "10,000 Images"
I have mostly made art when I was supposed to be doing something else, thus my art is a very deliberate redirection of my time. These images were created and collected over a period of decades and were intended as frames for animated films. I have made several thousand version fragments of these films. I created the first of these compositions while supposedly cleaning out my studio during the pandemic. The collection was always termed "10,000 Images".
