Elephant in the Room - Juried Exhibition

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

You won’t be able to ignore the elephant in the room during the upcoming show at Niza Knoll Gallery! This juried exhibition celebrates these majestic creatures with selected works rendered in clay, paint, photography, charcoal, wax, and all sorts of mixed media. A large papier-mâché elephant —created by Gallerist and show Juror, Niza Knoll, Georgianne Rollman and Kristy Melodia with help from Nancy Enyart and Sally Lewis—will serve as a delightful centerpiece to the show. Visitors are invited to view “Elephant in the Room” from April 7–June 4, 2023, and to an Artist Reception Friday, April 21, 5-8 pm at 915 Santa Fe Drive in Denver. Art will be for sale in the gallery and online at www.nizaknollgallery.com.

Works by the following local artists were accepted into the show: Kevin Barrett, Lisa Bonilla Panter, David Collins, Cara Fandel, LeAnn Fenton, Csilla Florida, Judy Gardner, Bari Gisin, Eric Hagemann, Deb Jenkins, Brenda Jones, Michele Messenger, Julia Mulligan, Marti Neveln, Jonathan Nicklow, Stephen Podrasky, Katie-Mai Quinn, Doug Ratcliffe, Georgianne Rollman, Margot Rowan, Max Seigal, Craig Marshall Smith, Stephanie Spindler, and Topher Straus.

The metaphorical Elephant in the Room is, of course, that despite their massive bodies and status as the largest land mammal on earth they are, for many varied and complex reasons, also an extremely vulnerable species. The works present real and imagined depictions of these smart, emotional, self-aware, and highly social creatures with a chance for the viewer to connect with them on both a profound and aesthetic level.

The Mix Co-op in the back of the gallery features 8 artists and is open during regular hours. Visit www.nizaknollgallery.com for the most up-to-date gallery hours.
