A Terrible Beauty

  • Sync Gallery 931 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

A Terrible Beauty is a stunning exhibition that explores the contrast and convergence of two different artistic visions in a world of chaos and turmoil. This exhibit features works that capture the beauty and fragility of our planet, the clash and fusion of cultures, the myth and reality of human ambition, and the decay and resilience of urban landscapes.

Rocco Albano’s art is rooted in his experience as a graffiti artist in Philadelphia in the 1980s, where he expressed his rebellion and resistance against an oppressive system. He later joined the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, where he learned from Jane Golden and other mentors. He also embraced digital art as a new medium to expand his creative possibilities. His art is a blend of his personal and historical struggles, and his visionary imagination. He creates powerful artistic expressions that challenge the status quo and confront the ghosts of history.

Dagmar Nickerson’s landscape paintings reveal the changing and often harsh environment of Colorado, where she lives and works. She uses light and color to create atmospheric effects that reflect the mood and tension of living in a climate-changing world. Her work invites the audience to appreciate the natural beauty that is at stake and to question their own role in its preservation or destruction.

A Terrible Beauty also provides an opportunity to share with our community the positive strides made by Environmental Learning for Kids ("ELK"). Through their various educational programs rooted in science and holistic living, ELK makes a significant impact on the lives of at-risk children and young adults living in Denver.

Rocco Albano and Dagmar Nickerson have successfully combined their individual skills and styles to produce two powerful works that challenge the viewers to think about the cycle of life and death in nature. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sale of these two pieces, consisting of a painting and a limited-edition print run will be donated by the artists to ELK.

There will be an Artist Talk on Saturday November 18, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event will feature participants from ELK who will discuss their program and their experience with helping at risk children and young adults.
