The MIX, TWO

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Niza Knoll Gallery presents the second group showcase of artists from The MIX co-op that regularly resides in the back of the gallery. Work by Nancy Enyart, Victoria Eubanks, Mark Friday, and Aliki McCain will enliven the front gallery from November 10 - December 16, 2023. Works include hand-built clay pieces, mixed media works that incorporate cold wax, assemblage sculptures and abstract impressionist paintings.

The public is invited to view the show during regular gallery hours, Thursday-Sunday 1-4 pm, and during the following special events:
Artist Reception: Third Friday, November 17, 4-8 pm
Sundays on Santa Fe Art Walk: November 26, 11 am–3 pm
First Friday Art Walk: December 1, 5-9 pm

Currently painting in an abstract expressionist style, Aliki McCain sees art as an essential part of who she is and how she functions in the world. She is proud to teach at Access Gallery, has served on their board and loves helping other artists reach their potential. She has curated and juried local and regional exhibitions, previously co-owned and managed Arthaus Gallery and has artwork in private collections.

Nancy Enyart creates hand-built clay pieces often representing animals. The various stages in the creation of a ceramic sculpture, from the pliable clay through its multiple firings to the last cold finishing, allow her to gradually work towards the final representation of her vision. Though her pieces are strong, they are not rigid in that the nature of the original clay remains visible and that evidence of her handwork shows in each piece. Enyart has exhibited also exhibited at Denver’s Redline Gallery, The Art Students League, and the Durst Gallery.

The challenge for Mark Friday is to transform the ordinary into the unique. Taking an additive approach to creating assemblage sculptures, he uses wood and metal, which are found, scrounged—miscellaneous bits and pieces from the discarded, unwanted leftovers from our mass-produced world. The resulting creations exhibit a quirky quaintness, sometimes primitive, sometimes more refined, often figurative, or just an intriguing arrangement.

Victoria Eubanks is a visual artist and educator. She brings 30 years of graphic design sensibility, 15 years of fine art making and extraordinary talent to her classrooms and studio. Victoria mixes media—combining encaustic medium, cold wax, paint, printmaking or photography in a variety of ways. Her art contains intended imperfections—lopsided rounds, rough sgrafitto lines, uneven repetition, organic shapes and the occasional recognizable object. She believes the inevitable human inconsistencies connect the artist and the viewer.
