Light Contrasting with Dark

  • Artists on Santa Fe Gallery and Studios 747 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Artists on Santa at 747 Santa Fe Drive presents a new join exhibition “Light Contrasting with Dark” with Terrel Bailey and Leigh Cabell running October 2 - 29, 2023. The two artists work with very different mediums yet speak to the same themes of nature and respect for the environment. Bailey highlights this through his stunning photography while Cabell impressively builds each scene from bits of discarded single-use items. The works are compelling side-by-side as representations of the literal and figurative light and dark elements in every experience.

The public is invited to view the show during the First Friday Art Walk on October 6, 6-9 pm, and during an Artist Reception on Third Friday, October 20, 5-8:30 pm, in addition to regular gallery hours as listed below. Fine art by other members will also be on display including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media and sculpture.

Bailey’s work shows the emotional impact the natural world has on him. His goal is to entice everyone to be better stewards of the wilderness. Cabell’s work is comprised of things we throw away, (coffee bags, chip bags) reducing them to small components that combine to show nature’s beauty and inspire people to reduce waste.

The two styles work beautifully together to reflect the theme as stated by the artists: “Light represents the beauty of nature, how the natural world brings perspective to humanity, and a move towards a more sustainable world. Dark represents the ugliness of human nature, the need to be hateful, divided, and wasteful. There is no pure light, nor is there pure darkness, but always a combination. The blending of the spectrum, the merging of the two, can create something beautiful.”
