Creature Comforts - A Juried Show

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

The collective trauma of the past few years has led many people to discover or reignite interest in that which brings them joy, solace or distraction. Niza Knoll Gallery invited artists to submit work that relates to or expresses these people, places, items or activities that provide the most comfort. Accepted works will be on display in Creature Comforts, a Juried Show that runs July 28 - September 3, 2022 in the gallery at 915 Santa Fe Drive. Subjects range from calming nature scenes that draw the viewer into a peaceful moment to iconic television characters enjoying a glass of orange juice, invoking the contentment and nostalgia of watching a favorite rerun. Genres include paintings, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and, of note, unique mixed media works made with preserved and polished fish bones laid out into a delightful and unexpected tableau.

The public is invited to view and purchase work during regular business hours Thursday-Sundays, 1-4 pm during the run of the show and during the following special events:

Sunday, July 31, 12-3 pm – Opening Reception during Sundays on Santa Fe Art Walk
Friday, August 5, 4-9 pm - First Friday Art Walk
Friday, Sept 2, 4-9 pm – First Friday Art Walk

Santa Fe Drive will be closed to car traffic during the August First Friday Art Walk and is a fantastic way to experience the district, with plenty of room to roam. Niza Knoll Gallery may require masks to enter as cases of the most recent covid variant rise in Denver.

The show features work by the following artists: Cecilia Calles, Teresa Castaneda, Alissa Davies, Daniel Eisenberg, Robyn Eubanks, Peggy Flynn, Susan C. Gregory, Dawn Hendrix, Mike Keene, Mark Kreger, Carrie MaKenna, Michael Martinez, Ala Park, Marlene Plomske, Randall Steinke, Marlene Viloria, Karen Winfield, Amber Winston-Squires, Samantha Wuestman

Juror Amy Norton has been working with and around artists, galleries, and other creatives for 20 + years in various capacities. A photographer in her own right, she graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado in 2000 with a focus in architectural photography. After working in photography and print production, she went on to work as an assistant to the developer of the 910Arts artists community and became involved as an active board member of the then burgeoning Art District on Santa Fe. She currently helps artists, galleries and other small businesses with their marketing/communications and owns/operates BetterWall.com which sells authentic art museum promotional banners, repurposed as wall art for the home or office.

Niza Knoll Gallery is located at 915 Santa Fe Drive in Denver’s popular Art District on Santa Fe and specializes in intriguing conceptual exhibits, participates in First and Third Friday, private concerts, and guest speakers.
