SYNC Gallery presents Near and Far by Sandy Marvin and James C. Jones

  • SYNC Gallery 931 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Sandy Marvin’s pastel paintings in Near and Far include landscapes -- done either in the studio or en plein air -- and still-lifes, painted from everyday objects. These works are visual expressions of how she experiences life - her delight in form, light, color and line. The world offers so many things of beauty, both natural and manmade. Marvin finds it a rewarding experience, as an artist, to look closely and study and paint them for their intrinsic aesthetic qualities.

While her work is realistic, Marvin is always conscious of the abstract design that underlies each composition. Many of her paintings begin with a drawing, or a watercolor under- painting, with soft pastel layered on top. Marvin strives ultimately to let all the layers be revealed.

In Near and Far, James C. Jones continues to explore the relationship of the natural world to our current digital landscape, by combining the patterns found in wood-grain, with non-traditional painting and inking methods. He then juxtaposes this figurative language with digital imagery that he has manipulated using various computer graphics programs. His unique technical process of creating art currently deconstructs imagery rooted in sacred geometry and asks each viewer to step outside themselves and question the perspective from which they are most comfortable. Jones has been creating and selling his art for over 20 years and is also a professional graphic designer and screen printer working in the Denver Metro area.
