GALLERY 6 DENVER KICKS OFF ‘IMPRINT’ COMPETITION TO SHINE A LIGHT ON UP & COMING PHOTOGRAPHIC TALENT IN COLORADO
Gallery 6 Denver is kicking off its 2023 Month of Photography program by offering breakthrough Colorado artists a real opportunity to make their mark on the Denver photographic art scene.
“IMPRINT is a new Colorado call-for-entry giving up and coming local artists the chance to win space at a downtown gallery during Denver’s highest profile photography event of the year,” said Gallery 6 Resident Artist, Scott Wilson, of WilsonAxpe Photography.
Three winning artists will have their own space at Gallery 6 Denver throughout Month of Photography in March 2023, including a special launch night on March First Friday (3/3/23), always a major draw for galleries in Denver’s bustling Art District on Santa Fe.
Wilson said IMPRINT has no age limitations, but the gallery’s intention was to provide a platform for undiscovered talent and to portray the power of photography in print form. A key element of judging will focus on the creative energy coming through Artist’s Statements.
“We’re not just providing space, we’re really opening up all of the Gallery’s combined experience and fine art print resources to provide a career head-start,” said Wilson, who recently picked up the Open Photographer of the Year title at the 2022 World Photography Awards.
With more than thirty years’ experience on the Denver art scene, Gallery 6 Resident and in-house Master Framer, Tony Eitzel, will be on hand to advise the winning artists on fine art printing and exposition and will provide each winner with one large-scale print to help kick off their own show in March.
Wilson says he hopes the combined experience of Gallery 6 Denver residents will help the upcoming photographers to tackle many of the everyday challenges that start-up artists face.
“Exposing printed art in a gallery is a world away from sharing digital work online, said Wilson. “No amount of social media beats the thrill of seeing your print on a wall and we are really delighted to be able to provide that opportunity to new artists.”
The IMPRINT competition will open online on Café Entry on Friday November 11 and remain open until December 23rd, 2022. Entrants will be invited to share up to three images which are representative of their work, along with an artists’ statement describing their approach and artistic direction.
A final shortlist of artists will be invited to the gallery in the heart of Denver’s Art District, during January, to help the Gallery 6 residents make their final selection, before announcing the three chosen IMPRINT at Gallery 6 Denver, during First Friday, on February 3rd 2023.
