Monocultures of the Mind: Bananas, Art, and the Environment in Latin America

  • Virtual Talk hosted by Center for Visual Art (map)

Join Center for Visual Art, MSU Denver for an online conversation with curators and artists from the Banana Craze exhibition on view at CVA. We welcome curators Juanita Solano Roa and Blanca Serrano Ortiz de Solórzano and artists María José Argenzio and Rachelle Mozman Solano to speak about the artwork and themes presented in the exhibition.

As the fourth most important food crop in the world, the banana dominates food production in Latin America where they are grown on large mono-crop plantations mostly run by three multi-national corporations. The artists in Banana Craze reflect on the dramatic footprint that the banana industry has left in both the natural and social ecosystems of banana producing nations since the beginning of the 20th Century until today.

This event is free and open to the public but registration is required as space is limited. For more information on the artists and the exhibitions at CVA, please visit our website at MSUDenver.edu/CVA.
