Tribute to the legend of La Llorona and Honoring Master Mexican Folklorist Rita Flores de Wallace

The Chicano Humanities Arts Council, will celebrate an end to their month long virtual Dia de Los Muertos series by honoring Colorado master Mexican Folklorist Rita Wallace and with a tribute to the legend of La Llorona. The tribute will be on Sat. Oct. 31, 2020 from 2 to 3 pm via Zoom. Wallace was dance director for more than 15 years with Teatro Latina de Colorado, created, performed and choreographed for several other dance groups. She is best known for her haunting piece “La Llorona” created for choreographer Jeanette Trujillo and the Fiesta Colorado Dance Company. The virtual celebration will include footage of Wallace’s original La Llorona dance. In addition, Jeanette Trujillo of Fiesta Colorado will interview Wallace about her inspiring career. Nadia Redone of the Corky Gonzales and Renee Fajardo will delight audiences with little heard stories of La Lorona.

CHAC Gallery & Cultural Center was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a venue to explore visual and performance art and promote and preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts.
