Passage - Juried Show Presented By The Women’s Caucus For Art

The Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA) is a national organization founded in 1972 to create community through art, education, and social activism by supporting women artist, creating leadership opportunities, and offering exhibition opportunities. The Denver Chapter of WCA, active since 1990 is proud to host Passage, a national juried exhibit features 50 artists from 22 states. The show is on view from November 15 through December 21, 2019 at Niza Knoll Gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe. Juror Gwen Chanzit, Ph.D. & Curator Emerita at the Denver Art Museum selected quality artworks that reflect passage both real and metaphorical such as physical journeys, emotional change, rites of passage, personal growth and transition. The public is invited to view and purchase works during regular gallery hours—Wednesday-Friday 1-5 p.m., Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. and during the following special events:

Opening Reception – Friday, November 15, 5-9 p.m.
Art of Brunch Art Walk – Sunday, November 24, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
First Friday Art Walk - December 6, 5-9 p.m.

The call-for-entry submissions were not restricted by gender, nor by membership in the WCA. From over 550 entries, works by these 50 artists were selected: Florence Alfano McEwin, Janet Ballweg, Claudia Berlinski, Audrey Breed, Karen Breunig, Ann Candler, Monica Carroll, Karen Cohen, Courtney Cotton, John Day, Annie Decamp, Cynthia Decker, Victoria Eubanks, John Fansmith, Diane Fenster, Christopher Fitzgerald, Stacy Friedman, Catherine Gilbronson, J. M. Golding, Scott Groeniger, Muyuan He, Maureen Hearty, Mike Herburger, Ethan Herrold, Ray Kingsbury Ann Kresge, Sue Lezon, Eric Lintala, Linda Lowery, Carolyn Mahakian, Vivian McAleavey, Michele Messenger, Deborah Mitchell, Ann Mohler, Meredith Moles, Marsha Mueller, Jonathan Price, Hasna Sal, Lisa Sanders, Marcia Santore, Carmen Schaefer, Kelsey Scharf, Michael Sharber, Anne Skok, Isaac Stackell, Andrew Stearns, Charlie Stevenson, Eric Strand, Jeane Vogel, Christine Wallbom and Ronald Wolff.

Gwen Chanzit is Curator Emerita of Modern Art and the Herbert Bayer Collection and Archive at the Denver Art Museum, and is Professor of the Practice and Director of Museum Studies in Art History at the University of Denver. Over her 36-plus years at the Denver Art Museum, Dr. Chanzit organized more than 30 exhibitions. Her major curatorial project, Women of Abstract Expressionism, opened at the Denver Art Museum in June 2016 and was on tour for a year. This traveling exhibition received much positive attention in the national and international press. She is also regarded as the world expert on Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer; she has published several books highlighting Bayer’s wide-ranging artistic contributions.
