The MIX, a Group Exhibition featuring Tyree Jones-Evans, Pat Lickly and Aliki McCain

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Niza Knoll Gallery presents the first of two group exhibitions highlighting members of The MIX, a co-op of eight artists who showcase their work year-round in the back of Niza Knoll Gallery. An expanded collection of pieces by members Tyree Jones-Evans, Pat Lickly and Aliki McCain will be displayed in the front of the gallery from August 16-September 29, 2024, at 915 Santa Fe Drive. The public is invited to attend an Artist Reception on Sat. Sept 7, 5-8 pm and to view the show during regular gallery hours Thursdays–Sundays, 1-4 pm with adjusted hours during monthly art walks such as First Friday, 5-9 p.m., Third Friday 5-8 p.m. and Sundays on Santa Fe, 12-4 p.m.

New to The MIX this year, Denver-based painter, Tyree Jones-Evans will be showcasing her knowledge of color and human expression in a series of poignant portraits. While her primary discipline is oil painting, her work veers towards a multi-disciplinary practice as she occasionally includes photography, drawing, and collage. She is inspired by light and how it manipulates color, effectively allowing it to foster kindred moods within her work.

Pat Lickly has been a member of The MIX since it’s inception. Her new mixed-media series blends her background in graphic design and ceramics with elements from the natural world. Stone, bone, fossils, metal, glass and paper fiber imbue her conceptual and more abstract art with a grounding sense of reality. As an avid gardener who loves the great outdoors, metaphorical themes emerge these pieces, inspired by flowers, trees, rivers, mountains and sky.

A co-op member for 10 years, Aliki McCain will present a body of work that is an homage to the miracle and wonder of trees. As a critical, connected part of our very existence, and as some of the longest-living organisms on Earth, trees have watched humans evolve. They work together as a community, communicating through a subterranean neural network to benefit themselves and create the biome for other species. With a staggering variety of over 73,000 species, they reduce our stress, buffer climate change, soil erosion and improve the quality of our water. They provide shelter and protection to all the organisms that have adapted to their generosity.

Niza Knoll Gallery is located at 915 Santa Fe Drive in Denver’s popular Art District on Santa Fe and specializes in intriguing conceptual exhibits featuring work by local and regional artists. They participate in the districtwide First Friday, Third Friday, and Sundays on Santa Fe events in addition to hosting private concerts, and guest speakers associated with the exhibitions. The Mix Co-op in the back of the gallery features eight local artists and is open during regular hours Thursday–Sunday, 1-4 pm.
