Wax on Wednesdays: wax+paper
Join Kelly Austin-Rolo for a comprehensive and exciting evening encaustic monotype workshop at the new PRISM ART WORKSHOPS. You will have the opportunity to learn the process and techniques to create one-of-a-kind prints with encaustic paint. All levels welcome. Encaustic is applied to the heated plate where it can be manipulated with tools and transferred to paper. NO PRESS is needed to create these prints. The workshop will explore encaustic monotypes, combining the directness and immediacy of the monotype with the richness and luminosity of encaustic. Manipulating pigmented wax on a heated surface, participants will begin the creative process with one-of-a-kind print. A brief history and description of encaustic as an art medium will be discussed. We will go over basic supplies, tools & safety.
The workshop will cover: • different ways of creating monotypes: additive, subtractive, masking & stencils • ways to use the hot palette effectively • exploring results that can be achieved with variation of temperature, wax, paper type & pigment load • all supplies and equipment will be provided • $90 per class • All levels welcome
