D’art Gallery, located at 900 Santa Fe Drive, hosts “Charisma” exhibitions with printmaker Lydia Riegle and ceramicist Jean Smith. The exhibition runs from Thursday, April 11, 2024, through Sunday, May 5th, 2024, with an Opening on Friday, April 12th from 6-8 pm.

The genesis of this exhibition, “Charisma”, focuses on Mid-Century Modern aesthetics and is driven by the compelling attractiveness that inspired devotion and longevity across time and space largely due to its charismatic power. Mid-century modern design is often geometric, and intriguingly simple, with smooth-flowing contours that recognize a quirky playful quality. All of these qualities appeal. Today, because lives are often complex, clean, and simple are appreciated and almost everyone loves quirky, different, or fun. These desired qualities can be used to describe Lydia Riegle’s monotype prints and Jean Smith’s ceramic sculptures for walls and floors. Riegle and Smith believe that visual creative language is often more than line, size, form, texture, or space. They posit that art helps to bring memories to the surface starting a dialogue that then acts as a catalyst to stretch thinking and boundaries adding to the richness of the human experience.
