Access Gallery is excited to present Super Collage, a group exhibition of new works created by artists participating in Access Gallery’s summer internship program. Identity, strength, and power are the principles behind teaching artist Devin "Speaks" Urioste’s approach to the artmaking process. He asked the artists to consider the following: What does it mean to know ourselves? Why is identity important? How is knowing who you are powerful? The show features works created with magazine clippings, paint and ink with topics that include pop culture, politics, science fiction, and humor.
Access Gallery's summer program provides youth between the ages of 16 and 21 with an eight week, creative, career-focused paid internship. During this time, interns develop their job, art, and interpersonal skills while taking part in opportunities that support collaboration, critical thinking, and time management. Interns work with Access Gallery artists, volunteers, and staff as well as local mentor artists. Their assignments are based on upcoming exhibition and commission needs. This program is made possible through a partnership with Denver Public School’s (DPS) School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP).

In addition we are featuring collages on our Spotlight Wall created by participants in Easterseals Colorado’s Explorers Adult Day Program taught by artists Elizabeth Stanbro and Sarah Darlene.
Teaching artist Elizabeth Stanbro guided the artists to layer abstract elements and utilize tactile materials exploring color, placement, texture, and shape without the need to rely on representational drawing skills. She found that the artists were willing to experiment and engage with openness and curiosity. Each piece directly reflects the creator’s individuality.
Sarah Darlene, Access Gallery’s Studio Manager, is a Denver-based artist that explores the intersection of painting, fiber, and meditation. During her workshop class, the artists created collages using fashion magazine images and recycled clothing as part of Darlene's ongoing collage series that uses these materials to investigate identity through abstraction. Artists intuitively selected and combined various fabrics to create colorful abstract compositions during two workshops at Access Gallery: The Studio in July.
