Juxtaposition is about exploring different ways in which perspective can influence the way we interpret the beauty that we see. When looking at things from a distance the individual objects tend to merge together and create abstract shapes and unique forms. Funny thing is, when you look at something extremely close up it also breaks into abstract shapes and unique forms that you may not have seen previously. It’s all a matter of perspective. By combining both close up and distant images, the comparisons become a story which describes our journey through life and how we try to make sense of the world around us.
Starting from a far, the painting begins by embracing the energy held deep within the landscape and focuses on the rhythm of breathing, discovering the patterns of movement. Using that tempo, dynamic works are created revealing intense variations of light and color that then merge into fluid panoramic forms. These contemporary works echo the vibrations discovered, replicating and enhancing the momentum.
In contrast, the close-up images are initiated by looking intensely at the smallest sections of plants or flowers and discovering the structures that hold them together. By manipulating the shapes and colors as they combine into forms, the spontaneous creations begin to depict pivotal moments of time when forces are united and coalesce into new structures infused with energy. The key is to organize the elements to bring order without diminishing the kinesis which brings resolution to each piece and becomes an experience itself.
By intermingling these diverse perspectives, we find the dissimilarities begin to fade and can focus on what we find beautiful in life leading us to a larger holistic view of the world.
