"Life, Death and Rebirth: Vida, Muerte y Renacimiento" is a Dia de Los Muertos art exhibit. This exhibit will feature CHAC artists and has been curated by Sonia Del Real and Shay Guerrero. This is CHAC Gallery’s opening exhibit in their new home in the Santa Fe Arts District. CHAC is one of the original nonprofits in Colorado that helped nurture and establish Dia de Los Muertos in Denver. For over fifty years CHAC has celebrated Dia de Los Muertos and helped pave the way for the abundance of Dia de Los Muertos celebrations state-wide. Dia de Los Muertos is an ancient Mexican custom that honors loved ones who have passed on and all the traditions that they gave us. “Dia de Los Muertos” is a special time to build and celebrate community and all the elders that paved the way for the abundance that we have now” Renee Fajardo CHAC Board Chair. As we build our altars, eat Pan de Muertos, decorate calaveras, and celebrate together we create a space filled with love and kindness; tradition says that at this time our loved ones who have crossed over are able to visit and celebrate with us. “We are all a part of this cosmic journey; we can not have one without the other. Life follows death, just as sunrise follows sunset,” Sonia Del Real, show statement.
CHAC Gallery & Cultural Center was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a venue to explore visual and performance art and promote and preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts.
