70-Something Exhibit

  • Niza Knoll Gallery 915 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

When it comes to art and creativity, why should children have all the fun? Research shows that engaging in creative activities as we age may be as important as exercise and healthy eating. This certainly rings true with seven local artists whose ages range from the 70s to late 90s featured in a new exhibit at Niza Knoll Gallery curated by Damon McLeese, Executive Director of Access Gallery. Robert Blunk, Macy Dorf, Peter Durst, Howard Harris, Michele Harris, Niza Knoll, and Leona Lazar, all vibrant, engaged individuals will showcase ceramic sculptures, paintings, and digital artwork created within the last 5 years. The goal of this show is to combat ageism—how we think, feel and act toward others or ourselves, based on age.

70-Something runs from January 20 to February 26, at 915 Santa Fe Drive. The public is invited to view and purchase work at an Artist Reception on Friday, January 20th from 5-8 pm and during regular gallery hours 1-4 pm Thursday–Sunday, and during the February 3rd First Friday Art Walk from 5-9 pm. Works will also be available to view and purchase online at www.nizaknollgallery.com

McLeese explains his inspiration for the exhibit: "Several years ago, I had the opportunity to visit with an artist in New York who was in her 90s. She was vibrant, exploring new ideas in her work, and pushing boundaries. I realized what a gift it was to talk to someone who was not only at the top of her craft but still pushing herself. Quite a difference from how older people are portrayed in our society. This show is about celebrating creativity, resilience, and joy."
