“Elements” - Solo Exhibitions by Terrel Bailey, Kim Roberts & Jaime Belkind-Gerson
D’art Gallery Artists, Terrel Bailey, Kim Roberts and Jaime Belkind-Gerson examine through their personal expression their perspective regarding simplicity, the compositional entities of the natural world, and internal human nature. Each artist invites the art appreciator to not only look at each artists' depiction of the physical elements but spend time with each work to enjoy the artist’s expression of their internal, emotional elements that have impacted them in the production of these works.
Solo Exhibition by Terrel Bailey
Terrel Bailey of Lifted Spirit Photos concentrates his camera lens on intimate landscapes to reflect his meditative approach to photography. The compositional elements of line, shape and form are primary elements in his work creating relationships among objects. The photographs reflect a sense of peace and quiet that he feels in nature and shares with his viewers. Terrel uses both color and black and white photographic processing as well as alternative printing processes from the 1800’s.
After photographing a place, he waits for a week or two before viewing the images. He then culls out the images he doesn’t feel are strong enough and begins to edit the best images on the computer (including film negatives which he scans) so they evoke the same feelings he felt when he photographed the scene. He finally makes a test print to ensure the image indeed evokes those emotions in the strongest way possible.
Terrel grew up watching his dad photograph the landscapes of the west. His formal introduction to photography was a photography class in high school where his final project was to make a roll of photographs with a 35mm camera and create an 8x10 print. He has been involved in photography in some capacity ever since. Some of his work is concentrated on conservation of the environment or causes like his photos of the landscapes of Bears Ears National Monument and more recently, the burn scars of the East Troublesome Fire within Rocky Mountain National Park. His work is part of private collections throughout North America. Terrel Bailey’s photographs can be viewed at: https://www.liftedspiritphotos.com
Solo Exhibition by Kim Roberts
The Rocky Mountains provide the inspiration for Kim Roberts’ contemporary landscapes. Her motivation for making art is to share an experience of an expanded state of mind that often arises in the midst of high mountain landscapes. Kim’s intention is to create the space for the viewer to pause and take a moment to rest the mind and experience a sense of peace.
Each piece begins with a sense of place with the geography acting as a mirror for a sense of internal location evoked by each landscape. Through the dance of the elements, a new perspective dawns. Kim Roberts, MA, trained as a psychotherapist and authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher, spent 25 years leading wellness retreats throughout the world. Her 15 years living in and around the Himalayas opened her eyes to the power of mountains. Kim is the author of two books, Ashtanga Yoga for Beginner's Mind, and Toward a Secret Sky: Creating Your Own Modern Pilgrimage. Her work is on view at https://kimrobertsart.com and on Instagram @kimrobertsart
Solo Exhibition by Jaime Belkind-Gerson
Jaime Belkind-Gerson’s work focuses on the connections that define the experience of “life” from the most essential biologic of functions, to the most complex mind experiences captured by the brain, senses and spirit.
His part of the exhibition features mixed media techniques including manipulated photographs that combine layers of medically generated body images with images of places, scenarios, and people. To create the photographs, Jaime Belkind-Gerson utilizes layers of body part images from CT scans, X-rays, and neuronal networks along with images, some of which he has taken and other are found images. For this exhibit, he will display the installation “Sanatorium”, made with casted medical instruments embedded in translucent resin, examining the hospital environment as a place to heal.
During the past thirty years, Jaime Belkind-Gerson has spent his time as an artist, researcher, and doctor. In addition to his duties as a physician, he also directs a neuroscience research lab. His experiences in the medical field and neuroscience have greatly influenced his art. His work is on view at https://www.jaimebelkindgerson.com and on Instagram @jaimebelkindgerson
