Printmaking is an important part of the Chicano/Latino culture. As Latinos/Chicanos continue to exercise their voices and celebrate their culture, Estampas Corrientes y Comunes “Prints Current and Common” is an important exhibit to see! The Latino/Chicano artists showing come from across the United States, spanning 3 generations of both men and women printmakers.
Printmaking has made important aesthetic, artistic and political contributions in the Chicano/Latino artist's communities. In the 1960’s Chicanos/Latino’s needed a visual voice for political, social, cultural and identity issues that were underrepresented. Printmaking was well suited as a visual voice because artists could make multiples for social causes, protests and disseminating their messages.
Estampas Corrientes y Comunes “Current and Common Prints” prints will be created by traditional printmaking techniques, relief, etching, silkscreen, lithography, monotype and multi-media that also uses a traditional technique.
