Mixed-media photography transfer pieces by Kym Bloom
This show is comprised of my favorite photos from the different places I’ve traveled — some many years ago and some last month. The pieces also represent the photo-transfer style I first created when I started showing at Kanon 13 years ago, so it’s sort of a retrospective of my work over the time we’ve been here. The process involves transferring inkjet photo prints to wood panels using acrylic gel medium, so that only the thin layer of the paper that holds the ink remains. The process of removing the rest of the paper leaves the final image with cracks and wrinkles that change the precise nature of a photograph into something less perfect. I love that the final pieces don’t look like photographs or paintings—the image takes the focus away from the process.
Photography print work by Elizabeth Mahler Licence
Archival pigment prints in various sizes of film based on personal work. The show is a compilation of my favorite images over the last 20 years of exploring abstract photography with the use of instant film cameras and other lomography-based cameras (Polaroid, Holga, Diana).
