Japanese artist Tadashi Hayakawa will have a solo exhibition in the Artwork Network Gallery from October 6 – November 27, 2017. Origin explores Hayakawa’s cultural identity and the pursuit of “home.”

“In the twilight of my life, I find that I want to return to where I came from, to discover more about where I came from and how that influenced my journey,” Hayakawa explains. The artist evokes traditional Japanese themes of mediation, soul, and zen to process the distinct self. A variety of materials are at play here, too – including sumi ink, often used in Japanese calligraphy. “These paintings are an expression of joy, appreciation, and excitement for a life lived.”

Tadashi Hayakawa received his creative spark from a father who, unable to pursue his own passion of being a painter due to being the only son, gave Hayakawa the personal room to grow into an artist. Tadashi left Japan at the age of 19 and moved to L.A to pursue a career in arts. After graduating from Otis Art Institute with an MFA, Tadashi worked as a graphic artist and began to focus strictly on painting in the early 90s. Since then he has dedicated his life to be true to his self and his art.

Origin, a continuation of an exhibit shown in Ginza, Tokyo during May 2017, features over thirty original paintings created specifically for the October show.
