"Press On" Exhibition at Sync Gallery

On view March 18-April 12, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday, March 20th, 2026, 5-9PM

The show title Press On refers to the fact that Debra Livingston's art in this show began as a print produced on an etching press. As a printmaker for over 40 years, she has amassed a collection of etchings, monoprints, and monotypes. In a world increasingly dependent on computers and digital media, the etching presses used to print her art are not that different from those used by Rembrandt in 1650. For this show, Debra has recycled her old prints into new artworks by transforming them with drawings, collage, and encaustic wax. The title also encourages Debra to Press On and continue her artistic journey.

Karen Wharton is a homebody who loves to travel. Travel fuels her imagination and reminds her how widely connected we are. Home is where Karen explores long-term, personal connections with the people she loves.

Art is how Karen holds both ideas at once: the vastness of the world and the intimacy of everyday life. She notes, "Honest, authentic art connects us as human beings." A trip to Japan in 2024 reopened her eyes to the quiet grace of ceramic vessels from all over the world. Some paintings in this show focus directly on these vessels. Others are simple tributes to the rhythms, shapes, and colors. Most of the paintings integrate her hand-painted monoprint collages, created with a Gelli Plate and a variety of printing techniques. Karen hopes these paintings bring the world home.

"Sun-Drenched Color in Bloom: Abstracted Florals & Botanicals — The Essence of Place" by Jeannie Paty

Artists on Santa Fe at 747 Santa Fe Drive welcomes guest artist Jeannie Paty for an exhibition of new paintings entitled “Sun-Drenched Color in Bloom: Abstracted Florals & Botanicals — The Essence of Place,” running March 20 – April 12, 2026.

Inspired by travel, gardens, and the cooling blues of water, these luminous works translate “color memories”—sun on petals, reflected light, and the feeling of exploration—into layered, expressive abstraction. The public is invited to an opening reception on March 20, 5-8 p.m., during Third Friday at the Art District on Santa Fe, the First Friday Art Walk on April 3, 6–9 p.m., and to view the show during regular gallery hours.

Paty is excited to showcase her recent pieces from a concentrated period of studio work giving the show a strong thread of energy and cohesion. Rather than focusing on one location, she invites the viewer into the bright, floral, and emotionally resonant colors that conger a sense of aliveness, connection, and possibility. This collection offers a chance to slow down, look closely, and experience color as a mood and a place.

As she explains, “Each painting begins as a color memory—sunlight on petals, the cooling blue of water, and the feeling of being fully awake in a place—and becomes an abstracted floral that’s more about essence than description.”

All Day I Dream Exhibition at Bitfactory Gallery

On view: March 20 - April 11

Bitfactory Gallery and Studios is pleased to present All Day I Dream, a group exhibition featuring four local artists whose work explores contemporary figuration through the lens of perception, memory, and internal experience.

Across painting and drawing, the figure emerges not as a fixed identity, but as something fluid, shifting between observation and imagination. Moments feel suspended, as if caught between waking life and dream: bodies rest, fracture, distort, or dissolve into their surroundings, carrying with them a sense of quiet tension and psychological weight.

Each artist approaches the figure differently, through heightened realism, expressive gesture, or geometric reduction, but all share an interest in what lies beneath the surface. The body becomes a site where internal states take form, where memory, environment, and emotion blur together.

The exhibition features work by Denver artists Annie Decamp, Caitlyn Dolphin, Michael Dowling, and Taylor Herda.

In All Day I Dream, the familiar becomes slightly off-center. These works do not document the world as it is, but as it is experienced, fragmented, layered, and often unresolved. Together, they invite viewers into a space where perception drifts, and the boundary between the physical and the imagined begins to dissolve.

Join us in introducing Dorian Agüero to the gallery. His timely work , “The Fragmented House” expands Abraham Lincoln’s warning that “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” but moves beyond political rhetoric toward psychosocial collapse. The division is not only national; it is internal, domestic. This phrase serves as a lens through which Agüero examines fractures in human relationships, families, societies, and nations.

"Textures" Exhibition at D'art Gallery

Opening Reception: Friday, March 27, 6-9 pm
On view: March 26 – April 19, 2026

Textures brings together four artists working across ceramics, mixed media, photography, and painting to explore surface, process, and material presence. The exhibition highlights work that embraces tactility – where layered marks, physical gesture, and material experimentation create visual depth and sensory resonance. Through hand-built clay, mixed-media, photographic processes, and painterly surfaces, the artist’s foreground texture is not as embellishment, but as the central language of expression. Together, the works invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and consider how touch, time, and process shape both the object and the experience of seeing.

Carbery Morrow - ceramics

When Carbery Morrow discovered the responsiveness of clay more than twenty-five years ago, she was captivated. Carbery is drawn to hand-building techniques because of the imperfect, organic forms that emerge. Often, she starts with a slab or coil and allows the clay to guide her. Carbery’s work often takes the shape of curvy, asymmetrical, sculptural (and often functional) vessels. She also gravitates towards playful pieces, such as lopsided houses and circles.

Carbery cycles between soft white clay, gritty red clay, and even grittier black clay, all stoneware. The characteristics of each clay body feed her need to grow and change. An ancient symbol of evolution, the spiral is her signature. Early on, Carbery carved a spiral out of clay. This same spiral image has evolved in her work, and she hopes it reflects an appreciation for the natural world, imparting a sense of simple joy.

Marni Myers - mixed media

Design and photography are two essential forces in Marni Myer’s creative process—each one feeding and challenging the other. Marni has always been attuned to the spaces around her, a sensitivity shaped by growing up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, where the city’s urban grid left a lasting impression on how structure and pattern coexist in our environment. Grounded in graphic design, Marni’s photography explores her relationship with pattern, texture, and minimalism, distilling the subtle beauty of everyday moments into images that spark curiosity and invite reflection.

Marni’s current work with alternative processes is an exploration of layering, both literal and conceptual. Through a tactile, hands-on approach, she’s moved away from direct botanical representation toward a softer, more painterly aesthetic where abstraction and mystery take center stage. The result is work that embraces the intangible, inviting viewers into a space of quiet discovery.

Stephen Podrasky - photography

Fine art photographer Stephen Podrasky is a visual storyteller who primarily uses a street photography approach to capture the moments he conceives in his imagination. After earning his BA in Fine Art Photography, he took his camera to the streets, first in Kansas City and later in Denver, focusing on his personal work in between photo sessions for advertising agencies, industry and fashion. Having spent his early career working on film, he brings to his digital work an intuitive understanding of light shaped by his practice of mentally visualizing the final print while looking through the optical viewfinder, rather than relying on the camera’s back screen. Even now, his view is that no image is complete until it has been printed.

Currently focusing solely on fine art photography, he uses these analog sensibilities to capture the interplay of light, texture and emotion he encounters while walking around the city. Among his recent bodies of work are Urban Alleys, colorful studies of the quirky and ever-evolving collage he discovers while exploring back streets, and Caged, a meditation on our relationship with the animals we display in zoos and aquariums. His work is held in numerous corporate and private collections and has been published in several notable magazines and journals. He lives and works in Denver, where he exhibits with the photography collective Photo Pensato and D’art Gallery.

Nijole Rasmussen - painting

Nijole’s body of work in “Textures” explores our connection to a deeper vision of the observer. Art is a unique reflection of outer reality and with these paintings she expresses the perception and vision of one’s soul. With this language of shapes and colors, Nijole’s body of work communicates to the viewer thoughts, emotions and that unique perception of reality that allows her to create her own world and live there protected by this illuminate power of art.

The blues and greens of the canvas are harbingers of nature’s reign in one’s mind. Horizons, lowers, rivers, abstract forms are tied gently together to express gratitude just being here and now. There are so many possibilities to express yourself, but the canvas and brush have taken priority. Life is Art. We differ in nothing more than our power to heal and feel. This body of work is Nijole’s healing and mostly feeling of the edges of the boundary, while letting go of intruding past. Feeling the center of mature core and understanding the importance of being present and grateful is the goal the artist had in mind.

Embracing Chance at D'art Gallery

Embracing Chance at D'art Gallery

Exhibition Statement

Embracing Chance brings together the distinct voices of Gloria Campbell, Lydia Riegle, and Jean Smith. Each artist has discovered that surrendering to the unexpected holds its own quiet reward. In their work, surprise, growth, self-realization, and wonder unfold through pieces that carry both presence and beauty. These are works that linger, are memorable and distinctive.

At its heart, Embracing Chance explores the art of letting go. Paradoxically, this freedom emerges not from a lack of discipline but from deep preparation. A foundation of skill, knowledge, and awareness makes release possible. Relinquishing control is far more challenging than it sounds, as each artist has come to understand through her process.

Gloria Campbell, an abstract mixed media artist, builds richly layered compositions through the interplay of color and texture. Her practice is one of continual adding and subtracting, an intuitive dialogue that results in complex, dimensional surfaces.

Lydia Riegle, a contemporary printmaker, creates clean, spirited works that subtly reference Mid- Century Modern design. She thoughtfully balances precision with spontaneity and infuses her compositions with playful forms, vibrant color, and a sense of lightness.

Jean Smith, a sculptural ceramic artist working in floor and wall installations, transforms clay into joyful explorations of color, texture, and form. Her imaginative process and structural sensibility also echo Mid-Century Modern aesthetics while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice. Together, these artists invite you to experience the vitality that emerges when control gives way to possibility. We hope you discover a sense of joy and perhaps a bit of magic in the act of letting go.

Gloria Campbell – Mixed Media Artist

Gloria Campbell is an abstract mixed-media artist who loves mixing just about everything -- colors, textures, papers, techniques and supplies-–all fair game as she creates layers on top of layers. She is a self-taught artist who is willing to take risks and works intuitively. When looking at a collection of her paintings---they can be quite different. Some are quirky and loud, others quiet and almost somber but somehow the viewer can tell they were created by the same artist—an artist who embraces chance at every opportunity.

Gloria is a member of D’art Gallery in Denver, the Lincoln Gallery in Loveland and regularly exhibits at 3 Square Art in Fort Collins. Her work has also been juried into exhibits in California, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wyoming.

Lydia Riegle – Contemporary Printmaker

Vitality and joy are at the heart of Lydia Riegle’s work. Through hand-pulled monotype prints, she invites the viewer to experience a unique perspective where energy, scale, and saturated color come alive. Lydia’s monotype prints explore two distinct directions. One collection pays homage to Mid-Century design – bold color, clean geometry, and unexpected large formats. The other captures stylized natural environments, evoking the big, wide open and a deep sense of place. The artist hopes you discover a spark of vitality and joy in every piece.

Lydia shares this sentiment with her audience. “Art, I believe: Helps to bring memories to the surface – to start a dialogue – which acts as catalyst to stretch thinking and boundaries – adding to the richness of the human experience.”

Jean B Smith - Ceramic Sculptor

A product of a Mid-Century childhood with an emphasis on Pop Art in college, Jean has been creating works in clay displayed in Co-Op galleries in Denver for almost 30 years. Her classes at Anderson Ranch along with weekend workshops in creating and learning have helped her fine- tune her vision and push her energies to create interesting bodies of work from playful food displays to dramatic floral bouquets and now to simplified geometric ceramic sculptures based on the feeling of her youth.

Jean enjoys the play of texture, color, size, and position in creating small intimate pieces as well as rambling, rolling, tumbling wall-filling statements. Jean’s tools of trade include a slab-roller to flatten half-bricks of moist clay into sheets which will be carved into fronts, sides, and backs for three-dimensional shapes. She uses knives, kitchen gadgets, buttons, rollers, found objects, and scraps of metal or nature found on the ground to bring these shapes to life either on the wall, hanging from the ceiling, or sprouting from the floor.

Besides creating her own work, Jean has helped students find their voice with clay via school and summer camp clay programs. Working with children helps her retain a sense of wonder and excitement when she creates a new body of work. She is definitely Embracing Chance!

"Unmapped" Exhibition at Sync Gallery

to May 10

"Unmapped" Exhibition at Sync Gallery

The paintings by Pamela Hake in Unmapped are emotional responses to the earth and the events unfolding on it around her. Using acrylics, charcoal, inks, and collage, she releases those emotions in an unmapped representation coming from her soul. Whether it is storm clouds, dead flowers, crashing waves, or sunshine finding its way through the darkness, each is an abstract rendition unique to her.

Lois Lupica has observed that some places resist the precision of a map. The Big Island of Hawai'i is one of them — a landscape still actively becoming itself, where molten earth meets ocean and the light shifts from volcanic haze to blazing gold in a single breath.

Lois's paintings in Unmapped are a body of encaustic and cold wax works born of repeated journeys to this island, each visit revealing something a photograph could never capture. These paintings don't trace coastlines or mark coordinates. Instead, they chase what lingers after the trip is over: the way late afternoon light turns the air amber, the impossible blue where deep water meets shallow reef, the raw authority of lava rock that has barely cooled.

Working in wax allows these impressions to build the way memory does — in translucent layers, one experience settling over the last, edges softening, colors deepening. The encaustic surface holds light the way the island itself does, glowing from within rather than simply reflecting what's above. Some pieces push toward recognizable horizons; others dissolve into pure color and texture, capturing the feeling of a place rather than its likeness.

Unmapped is an invitation to travel without a guidebook — to stand inside a landscape that is felt before it is understood, and to find your own way through.

Mindscapes, The Art of Discovery at D'art Gallery

Mindscapes, The Art of Discovery at D'art Gallery

D’art 360 is proud to host the imaginative exhibition Mindscapes, The Art of Discovery from April 23–May 17 by artists Daniel Bahn, Melanie Fischer, Claire Ibarra, and Betsy Kolt. These four artists uniquely explore the “landscapes of the mind” through intuition and improvisation expressed in color, shape, and texture.

Daniel Bahn

These paintings are inspired by the shifting light, color, and energy of the Sea of Cortez (Mar de Cortés), where the desert meets the water in a constantly changing environment. Throughout the day, the landscape transforms—deep blues give way to greens, while traces of copper and sand move through the shore and sea. I focus on capturing the feeling of being there: the movement of the tide, the dusty amber light on the horizon, and the sense of space and openness. Each piece is built through layers of color and gesture, creating depth and texture that reflect the rhythms of the coastline.

This environment has shaped how I see and respond to color and texture. These works are an invitation to pause, take in that atmosphere, and experience a moment of connection to a place that is both powerful and serene.

Melanie Fischer

When I go for a walk in my mind, I sometimes find places that make me dream about landscapes that are both real and surreal. I seek to make space for art with a beginners mind by looking inward with no judgment. When my inner critic comes unannounced, I invite them to sit and play. The art I create comes from that space of joining the inner and outer worlds.

Over the last few months I have been searching for something different in my art practice. This show is about shifting my point of view. How do I see the same thing, but in different ways? I began to look at how to express the shapes I see using different artistic methods. Acrylic as a medium is new to me. I find it to be both joyful and challenging. These paintings are stylized, representational, abstract and mixed-media. I invite you to walk with me on my new path.

Claire Ibarra

A mindscape is a panorama reflecting a person’s imagination, memories, emotions, and thoughts. It is a visual space connecting us to our inner world. My images are an invitation to enter and wander to discover unfolding mysteries outside and within ourselves. I hope these otherworldly landscapes invite introspection, as well as bring the viewer a sense of tranquility, in an often chaotic world.

My images reflect the four sacred elements: earth, water, air, and fire. There is powerful medicine found in trees and plants, bodies of water, and the sky in its many forms. When I am in nature, I look to them for healing and the gifts they share. I have always been drawn to storytelling as a means of exploring and illuminating the human condition. My artistic life began with writing fiction, but I found myself moving toward poetry as I strove to distill narratives to their bare and essential essence. It seems that photography was the next logical step in that process. I use composite photography to create visual narratives, and I always have a particular fondness for the strange beauty of landscapes.

Betsy Kolt

“Improvisation… in Art & Life” is a collection of mixed-media paintings and assemblages that explore the interplay between jazz improvisation and abstract art, while also engaging with political and social themes of feminism, social justice, and protest. The work serves as a form of resistance—a visual act of protest that challenges conformity and injustice. I have always been drawn to the process of abstracting narrative and emotion, building layered abstract improvisations through the use of bold color, layered patterns, ephemera and found objects.

Several paintings are inspired by jazz legends-- Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock-- known for pushing against convention and societal barriers with joy and fearlessness. In creating this series, I literally painted, scraped and spattered to the beat and tempo of these jazz standards, while reflecting on their real impact on civil rights and de-segregation.

The pair of vintage wood panels “Deconstructed Dowry” was influenced by the assemblage techniques of Loise Nevelson and other mid-century artists. Inspired by a collection of antique piano keys, vintage photos, and domestic cast-offs (thimbles, baby shoes, spools, sea shells, etc.), I created a totemic narrative symbolizing early 20 th century women’s hopes, dreams, disappointments and restrictions.

“Trail of Tears” and “Their Land” is a pair of mixed media collage on paper, which contrasts native American’s beliefs of land as a communal living entity, with government’s forced displacement and appropriation of their lands. The cross symbols used throughout the works juxtapose indigenous peoples reverence for the four directions or medicine wheel, with Christian efforts to forcibly assimilate them into white culture and the resulting genocide.

The Opening Reception for this exhibition is Friday, April 24, 5-9pm

Additional events include:

  • First Friday: May 1, 6-9 pm

We're bringing together art and activism, creating a space for artists and crafters to come together to create for a cause.

Crafty Action Society is a way to bring people together to learn from local organizations working for social change and to do so through “craftivism“- using creative expression to cultivate awareness and spread their message. March 18 is the 1st session in this monthly series and will be a PechaKucha (Japanese for chit-chat) style presentation from local activists about how your creativity can help their cause. After the PechaKucha we'll bring out the craft supplies and create an action plan for the coming months. We’ll explore techniques from quilting and embroidery to stenciling, collage, and papier-mâché ensuring activities are accessible to beginners and more advanced makers alike.

Through this program, we are raising money for the organization that we are hosting and our own teen internship program. But no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Tickets are available on a sliding scale from $10 - $40 which will also cover supplies, snacks, and the assistance of our teaching staff.

The Center for Visual Art is MSU Denver’s off-campus art center located at 10th and Santa Fe Drive. We present year-round exhibitions that encapsulate the power of art and its ability to spark dialogue and create pathways to change. Whether giving voice to local artists or those with international reach, CVA’s exhibitions address complex social issues in a visual language unlike any other form of communication. www.msudenver.edu/cva

"What We Tend" Opening Reception at D'art Gallery

What We Tend is a collaboration between Melody Epperson and Tricia Soderberg. Both artists explored new studio practices in which they "tended" their inner artist, leaning into abstraction and intuition while maintaining their nature-inspired subject matter. Each artist moves through a process where they rely less on conscious thought and more on what arises from the unconscious, resulting in a series of truly unique and intuitive art pieces.

This approach is also evident in their collaborative wall painting, which invites a conversation between the two artists and will unfold throughout the exhibition.

"What We Tend" Exhibition at D'art Gallery

Opening Reception: Friday, March 13, 6-9 pm
On view: March 12 – April 5, 2026

What We Tend is a collaboration between Melody Epperson and Tricia Soderberg. Both artists explored new studio practices in which they ”tended” their inner artist, leaning into abstraction and intuition while maintaining their nature-inspired subject matter. Each artist moves through a process where they rely less on conscious thought and more on what arises from the unconscious, resulting in a series of truly unique and intuitive art pieces.

This approach is also evident in their collaborative wall painting, which invites a conversation between the two artists and will unfold throughout the exhibition.

Melody Epperson – artist’s statement

There is a time to look outward at the world and a time to turn that gaze inward. This series of encaustic mixed-media paintings embodies the latter. After a long period of seeking wisdom from my external environment through nature, I have shifted my focus inward. Through exploring new practices of meditation, self-compassion, presence, and gratitude, I create art that captures layers of consciousness and thought, intertwined with ethereal swirls inspired by my enduring relationship with the natural world.

This meditation-based process contrasts with my typical approach, which often involves internal judgment and critique. In this series, I embrace what arises organically, resulting in a more intuitive body of work—less deliberate and more reflective. The materials I’ve chosen—photo-silkscreen images from nature, charcoal from natural matter, gold foil, and wax—evoke my connection to nature while expressing both my inner reflections and the current state of my mind; the charcoal symbolizes transformation, the gold adds a touch of illumination, and the wax creates a tactile depth that invites viewers to explore the layers of meaning within each piece.

Tricia Soderberg – artist’s statement

My mixed-media work explores the cycle of cultivation and transformation. I begin by building a self-curated library of organic imagery—natural forms, textures, and patterns gathered through observation and research. These elements are my visual raw material, cultivated over time with care and intention.

Through layering, combining, and reimagining these visual elements, transformation occurs. Using a range of mixed-media techniques, I manipulate the familiar into something newly evocative—allowing images to shift, merge, or dissolve in unexpected ways. The work becomes a site of metamorphosis, where natural forms are abstracted, and meaning unfolds through process. Each piece in this exhibition reflects this ongoing rhythm: a dialogue between intention and chance, memory and material, structure and change. My work invites viewers into that in-between space—where something is always becoming.

Mo'Print Pop-Up Exhibition at the ADSF Studio

March is the Month of Printmaking (Mo'Print)—a biennial event celebrating the fine art of making original, hand crafted print. Printmaking, in particular, is a visual language that is almost inextricable from its origins as a tool for disseminating political and cultural ideology to the masses.

This exhibition features ten local artists who explore printmaking as a tool at the intersection of art, ideology, and activism in Denver; a window into the fraught yet powerful sociopolitical consciousness of our city today.

During the opening reception, Mara Wroblewski will be offering live printmaking with their featured "Fuck Ice" design! Bring your own clothing, tote bags, or whatever you'd like to print on (canvas, linen, cotton, or blend). $15 per print with a third donated to the immigration Freedom Fund.

Featured Artists: Ada Gonzalez Alcaraz, Blake Ballard, Riley “Sylvie” Martin, Brenda Garcia Mijares, Michele Montgomery, Jini Veenker, Evan Wang, Riley Welsh, and Mara Wroblewski.
